Data Collection

Chat Clip collects the following data when you use the extension:

  • Email address — collected via Google OAuth when you sign in.
  • Bookmark metadata — when you save a clip, we store a preview snippet of the message text (first 30-50 characters), a unique message identifier, and the conversation URL.
  • Clip count — the total number of clips you have saved across all platforms.

We do NOT store or transmit your full conversation content. Only the small preview snippet you explicitly choose to bookmark is saved.

How We Collect Data

  • Google OAuth — we use Google sign-in to authenticate you. We receive your email address and a unique user ID from Google.
  • Chrome Storage API — your bookmarks are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local.
  • Supabase — your email and clip count are stored in our Supabase database.
  • DOM Access — the extension reads the web page to extract a short preview of message text when you click the bookmark button on an AI reply.

Data Storage

Local Storage

Your bookmarks are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. We have no access to this data. It remains on your device and is lost only if you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data.

Cloud Database

Your email address and clip count are stored in Supabase. This allows us to enforce the 10-clip limit and sync your count if you use the extension on multiple devices.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

Supabase acts as our data processor for cloud storage of your email and clip count. Supabase handles this data according to their own privacy policy and security practices.
